Flick,Flop and Shit

As i am relatively free from my college work..i took time to watch 2 new movies. One was a Tamil film 'Azhagiya tamil magan' starring Vijay and the other was 'Saw 4'!. Though Saw 4 didn't hit Indian screens i got to watch it on my PC thanks to a torrent

Here goes my review of the two films...

AZHAGIYA TAMIL MAGAN
The film opens with Vijay being given the Superstar-like intro and he is again being portrayed as the 'common-man'.Bullshit numbah 1.
The first 30 mins are a sheer waste of time...the film could have been reduced to just 2 hours. We are shown the usual intro song and unwanted animations which lead to another song and the same old love story.Bullshit numbah 2.

Then the Director shows us that he has watched 'Final destination'!Our common-man gets to see flashes of images that are going to occur in the future. But these images occur only thrice for our hero and all of them in the first-half.Bullshit numbah 3.
The hero sees him killing his own girlfriend in the future.Afraid that might happen..he runs to Mumbai. There he sees his look-alike(Vijay no.2 and no..they aren't twins). He come to realise that our heroine might as well be hurt by the other vijay. As expected, the look-alike has a villainous character.Bullshit numbah 4.
The good guy is hurt in Mumbai and is advised rest till the last 30 minutes of the movie. In the meantime, the villain takes the Hero's seat left empty in Chennai. He looks to run away with both the girl and her money. As always, our girl is rich!Bullshit numbah 5 this certainly is,as we are all tired of seeing this old story from the 70's.
The film moves quite smoothly in the second half till it is injected with a dampener of a climax. Our girl gives a strong speech to the villain(thinking he is the good guy). The bad guy realises his fault and turns into a good guy!!He finds a pair for himself(Namitha!) and both the pairs live happily ever after!!Big time Bullshit!

The movie is certainly the worst for the actor in recent times. It would have been a good flick had it been released 2 or 3 years back.
Azhagiya Tamil Magan is behind the times! It goes back to the past.
My rating - 5/10.

SAW 4

The film opens with the autopsy of the deceased Jigsaw Killer, who was killed in the ending of Saw III.During the operation, a wax-coated audio cassette is found in Jigsaw's stomach.Detective Hoffman is called to the scene, where he plays the tape which states that, although Jigsaw is dead, "the games have just begun".I don't want to reveal everything here as it might be dampen the mood of Saw lovers waiting to watch the movie. However,i cannot help but include certain spoilers.

The plot is probably the most complex. The traps were much better and less horrifying than those in Saw3.This movie gets the most gory opening of all the earlier Saw's.Though Jigsaw is dead...he is still the one who runs the show.We get to see glimpses of his past and it is an eye-opener for his character. It is finally revealed that the events of Saw 4 have run concurrently to those of Saw 3.The autopsy scene that occurred at the beginning of the film is shown again, revealing it to have occurred after the events of the film and not before. As the tape found in Jigsaw's stomach is played again, Detective Hoffman is told that Jigsaw's games have only just begun, and he will be tested.Saw 4 begins and ends dramatically but there are places that were left to be desired in the middle. The main victim in Saw 4 - Detective Rigg is tested in the movie for no big fault. All he has is his obsession to save people. But what Saw4 does best is that it sets the stage for Saw 5 and i can catch as many Saws.Saw 4 also has the best music of all its prequels. The 'Hello Zepp' tune is intelligently bought back towards the climax. At the end of the movie, all i felt was 'I want more'!
8/10

In the name of God..

I got to celebrate an exceptionally good Diwali this year! The 5 day long break served its purpose. It was crackers for 2 whole days as i was part of a big family get-together.The problem(as usual)when all our family members meet is that they carry out a trip to some temple. This time it was the newly built 'Golden temple' in Vellore,Tamilnadu.
I had read about the temple in the papers and even seen about it in jobless news channels.I thought it was just another one until i visited it.It is magnanimous, spread over 100 acres.
Cameras and mobiles were strictly prohibited inside ans hence, there are very few photographs of the temple available for viewing.
The main 'Gopuram' is entirely made of Gold.It is built in such a way that you cannot touch any Gold. The Gold structure is surrounded by water on all sides, thus forming an island kinda look.Even more impressive than the Gold was the remaining 99.9 acres. One will have to walk about 1.5 Kms to see the main Deity. The entire place around you on your way towards the deity is covered with grass lawn.A path made of Granite is for people to walk. You cannot even keep your feet on Grass.A few feet from the entrance you get to see a beautiful artificial waterfall...and you cannot even get close to it and one can watch it only from a 100 metres away. The whole temple is said to have been constructed at a cost of a whopping 500 crores! The amount of Gold that has been spent is an unbeleivable 1500 Kilos!!The whole temple is claimed to be a spiritual park.

But,the question is....is it spiritual?500 crores of money can help develop villages or would be a gift to poor people.India is not yet flying high, that it can neglect 500 crores. The money seems to have come from huge NRI investments.Spending such a huge amount in the name of God is atrocious to me.Defenders might say that it in turn goes to the poor.Bullshit!
Frankly speaking,i didn't feel a faint bit of spirituality when i was inside the 'Sripuram'.I was amazed by the scenery created and was wondering about the cost factor. The whole idea was ridiculous to me.People will remember the place more for the Gold and the landscape rather than the Goddess inside. You can spend such money in building the landscape and scenery and perhaps creating a wonder...but doing that in the name of God is a terrible idea. But,the sad fact is that, the investment turns into a profit when such a temple is built, thanks to Super-superstitious people.
Due,to its increasing popularity,it is on line for being the next 'Tirupathi',which is frustrating for me.
Whatever that is sold in the name of God,sells!

The festival of lights

Its been a really long time since i posted thanks to my unit tests in college.I have done fairly well in all my 8 subjects.A 5 day holiday lies ahead of me and it comes as a big break. There's nothing much happening hot around me if you don't count the incessant rain over here in Chennai. The Hindus all over the world are looking forward for a Diwali bash.Diwali or Deepavali is one day which is ruled primarily by fireworks and the film industry. It is one unique festival which needn't have any pooja in any household...its all about celebrating. The thing i like most about Diwali,is without doubt the crackers.

But,why is Diwali meant to be celebrated?
1.The most repeated version is that Hindus celebrate Diwali to mark the time when Lord Rama achieved victory over Ravana.
2.The Diwali lamps also indicate Rama's return from the forest and it acts as a sign to welcome him back home.
3.It is also viewed as the day Krishna defeated the demon Narakasura.
4.In Jainism it marks the nirvana of Lord Mahavira.
5.It is also a significant and auspicious day in Sikhism.

But..the 5 reasons for which it is celebrated now:

1.Fun!
Its once in a year you get to burst crackers.(Forgetting the fact that it is also done when the Indian cricket team achieves a remarkable victory rarely!)
2.More fun!
Its all about eating all the delicious items you ever wanted to get your hands upon.
3.There has to be some profit!

Diwali is an annual stimulus for the Indian economy. It is boom time for the economy as the purchase of jewellery,garments,house-hold appliances multiply by a fair amount. It serves as a blessing in disguise as it turns out to be profitable for those big and small businessmen and at least 'appears' profitable for the common man.
4.A visual treat!
Even if you don't like to celebrate the festival of lights it is undeniably celebrated by most of the people in India. As a result of which, houses are lit by lamps, shops and offices are decorated and the whole place looks to be different..like wearing a mask for one odd day.
5.You get to wear new clothes!!Sheesh!

Diwali is surely the front-runner for 'The national festival' if there is to be one such thing.Whatever be the reason, the festival of lights is here bringing with it hope to mankind. So,join the party!
Happy Diwali!
