As i am relatively free from my college work..i took time to watch 2 new movies. One was a Tamil film 'Azhagiya tamil magan' starring Vijay and the other was 'Saw 4'!. Though Saw 4 didn't hit Indian screens i got to watch it on my PC thanks to a torrent
Here goes my review of the two films...
AZHAGIYA TAMIL MAGAN
The film opens with Vijay being given the Superstar-like intro and he is again being portrayed as the 'common-man'.Bullshit numbah 1.
The first 30 mins are a sheer waste of time...the film could have been reduced to just 2 hours. We are shown the usual intro song and unwanted animations which lead to another song and the same old love story.Bullshit numbah 2.
Then the Director shows us that he has watched 'Final destination'!Our common-man gets to see flashes of images that are going to occur in the future. But these images occur only thrice for our hero and all of them in the first-half.Bullshit numbah 3.
The hero sees him killing his own girlfriend in the future.Afraid that might happen..he runs to Mumbai. There he sees his look-alike(Vijay no.2 and no..they aren't twins). He come to realise that our heroine might as well be hurt by the other vijay. As expected, the look-alike has a villainous character.Bullshit numbah 4.
The good guy is hurt in Mumbai and is advised rest till the last 30 minutes of the movie. In the meantime, the villain takes the Hero's seat left empty in Chennai. He looks to run away with both the girl and her money. As always, our girl is rich!Bullshit numbah 5 this certainly is,as we are all tired of seeing this old story from the 70's.
The film moves quite smoothly in the second half till it is injected with a dampener of a climax. Our girl gives a strong speech to the villain(thinking he is the good guy). The bad guy realises his fault and turns into a good guy!!He finds a pair for himself(Namitha!) and both the pairs live happily ever after!!Big time Bullshit!
The movie is certainly the worst for the actor in recent times. It would have been a good flick had it been released 2 or 3 years back.
Azhagiya Tamil Magan is behind the times! It goes back to the past.
My rating - 5/10.
SAW 4
The film opens with the autopsy of the deceased Jigsaw Killer, who was killed in the ending of Saw III.During the operation, a wax-coated audio cassette is found in Jigsaw's stomach.Detective Hoffman is called to the scene, where he plays the tape which states that, although Jigsaw is dead, "the games have just begun".I don't want to reveal everything here as it might be dampen the mood of Saw lovers waiting to watch the movie. However,i cannot help but include certain spoilers.
The plot is probably the most complex. The traps were much better and less horrifying than those in Saw3.This movie gets the most gory opening of all the earlier Saw's.Though Jigsaw is dead...he is still the one who runs the show.We get to see glimpses of his past and it is an eye-opener for his character. It is finally revealed that the events of Saw 4 have run concurrently to those of Saw 3.The autopsy scene that occurred at the beginning of the film is shown again, revealing it to have occurred after the events of the film and not before. As the tape found in Jigsaw's stomach is played again, Detective Hoffman is told that Jigsaw's games have only just begun, and he will be tested.Saw 4 begins and ends dramatically but there are places that were left to be desired in the middle. The main victim in Saw 4 - Detective Rigg is tested in the movie for no big fault. All he has is his obsession to save people. But what Saw4 does best is that it sets the stage for Saw 5 and i can catch as many Saws.Saw 4 also has the best music of all its prequels. The 'Hello Zepp' tune is intelligently bought back towards the climax. At the end of the movie, all i felt was 'I want more'!
8/10

In the name of God..
I got to celebrate an exceptionally good Diwali this year! The 5 day long break served its purpose. It was crackers for 2 whole days as i was part of a big family get-together.The problem(as usual)when all our family members meet is that they carry out a trip to some temple. This time it was the newly built 'Golden temple' in Vellore,Tamilnadu.
I had read about the temple in the papers and even seen about it in jobless news channels.I thought it was just another one until i visited it.It is magnanimous, spread over 100 acres.
Cameras and mobiles were strictly prohibited inside ans hence, there are very few photographs of the temple available for viewing.
The main 'Gopuram' is entirely made of Gold.It is built in such a way that you cannot touch any Gold. The Gold structure is surrounded by water on all sides, thus forming an island kinda look.Even more impressive than the Gold was the remaining 99.9 acres. One will have to walk about 1.5 Kms to see the main Deity. The entire place around you on your way towards the deity is covered with grass lawn.A path made of Granite is for people to walk. You cannot even keep your feet on Grass.A few feet from the entrance you get to see a beautiful artificial waterfall...and you cannot even get close to it and one can watch it only from a 100 metres away. The whole temple is said to have been constructed at a cost of a whopping 500 crores! The amount of Gold that has been spent is an unbeleivable 1500 Kilos!!The whole temple is claimed to be a spiritual park.
But,the question is....is it spiritual?500 crores of money can help develop villages or would be a gift to poor people.India is not yet flying high, that it can neglect 500 crores. The money seems to have come from huge NRI investments.Spending such a huge amount in the name of God is atrocious to me.Defenders might say that it in turn goes to the poor.Bullshit!
Frankly speaking,i didn't feel a faint bit of spirituality when i was inside the 'Sripuram'.I was amazed by the scenery created and was wondering about the cost factor. The whole idea was ridiculous to me.People will remember the place more for the Gold and the landscape rather than the Goddess inside. You can spend such money in building the landscape and scenery and perhaps creating a wonder...but doing that in the name of God is a terrible idea. But,the sad fact is that, the investment turns into a profit when such a temple is built, thanks to Super-superstitious people.
Due,to its increasing popularity,it is on line for being the next 'Tirupathi',which is frustrating for me.
Whatever that is sold in the name of God,sells!

The festival of lights
Its been a really long time since i posted thanks to my unit tests in college.I have done fairly well in all my 8 subjects.A 5 day holiday lies ahead of me and it comes as a big break. There's nothing much happening hot around me if you don't count the incessant rain over here in Chennai. The Hindus all over the world are looking forward for a Diwali bash.Diwali or Deepavali is one day which is ruled primarily by fireworks and the film industry. It is one unique festival which needn't have any pooja in any household...its all about celebrating. The thing i like most about Diwali,is without doubt the crackers.
But,why is Diwali meant to be celebrated?
1.The most repeated version is that Hindus celebrate Diwali to mark the time when Lord Rama achieved victory over Ravana.
2.The Diwali lamps also indicate Rama's return from the forest and it acts as a sign to welcome him back home.
3.It is also viewed as the day Krishna defeated the demon Narakasura.
4.In Jainism it marks the nirvana of Lord Mahavira.
5.It is also a significant and auspicious day in Sikhism.
But..the 5 reasons for which it is celebrated now:
1.Fun!
Its once in a year you get to burst crackers.(Forgetting the fact that it is also done when the Indian cricket team achieves a remarkable victory rarely!)
2.More fun!
Its all about eating all the delicious items you ever wanted to get your hands upon.
3.There has to be some profit!
Diwali is an annual stimulus for the Indian economy. It is boom time for the economy as the purchase of jewellery,garments,house-hold appliances multiply by a fair amount. It serves as a blessing in disguise as it turns out to be profitable for those big and small businessmen and at least 'appears' profitable for the common man.
4.A visual treat!
Even if you don't like to celebrate the festival of lights it is undeniably celebrated by most of the people in India. As a result of which, houses are lit by lamps, shops and offices are decorated and the whole place looks to be different..like wearing a mask for one odd day.
5.You get to wear new clothes!!Sheesh!
Diwali is surely the front-runner for 'The national festival' if there is to be one such thing.Whatever be the reason, the festival of lights is here bringing with it hope to mankind. So,join the party!
Happy Diwali!

When the clouds burst...
The Autumn season which carries with it heavy rains gets over before this time in most parts of the World...even in most parts of India. But,it is a different story down here in Chennai. This is the time when the rainy season kicks off...when the west is ready to welcome Winter and north India just tired after the final full-time whistle of the Autumn. So,this is the short period of the year when Chennai remains somewhat pleasant. This year, the Autumn has been further delayed.(Blame it on Global Warming if you can't find a reason). And,what better way to enjoy the Madrasi rain other than to have a hot, spicy 'Masala puri' on the streets!!!
The pic was taken by me :)

1..2..3....Boom!
For the third time (as far as i can remember)the Indo-US nuke deal topped the headlines in the Yahoo insider...and it has been on the front page of the papers for atleast a dozen times. All i knew about it were the basics..just what a common man needs to know. But this episode is turning out to be rather dramatic than expected. The end product of this issue could either result in the fall of the UPA at the centre or straining of the Indo-US ties(which will be a nose-cut for Mr.You-know-who) or life could go on as if nothing had happened(bleh! What the fuck is dramatic in this?).
This is what Wikipedia gave me regarding 123 deal..:
The United States-India Peaceful Atomic Energy Cooperation Act of 2006 is the legal framework for a bilateral pact between the United States and India under which the U.S. will provide access to civilian nuclear technology and access to nuclear fuel in exchange for International Atomic Energy Agency-safeguards on civilian Indian reactors. This act provides the legal basis for a 123 Agreement with India. The 123 agreement requires separate U.S. congressional approval and Indian cabinet approval and will define the exact terms and conditions for bilateral civilian nuclear cooperation.
Rationale behind the agreement
The growing energy demands of the Indian and Chinese economies have raised questions on the impact of global energy availability. The Bush Administration has concluded that an Indian shift toward nuclear energy is in the best interest for America to secure its energy needs of coal, crude oil, and natural gas. Moreover, the Bush administration insists that India's strong non-proliferation record and stable democracy further helped justify a nuclear pact with India while not providing Pakistan or others the same. Finally,The U.S. also expects that such a deal could spur India's economic growth and bring in $150 billion in the next decade for nuclear power plants, of which the US wants a share. It is India's stated objective to increase the production of nuclear power generation from its present capacity of 4,000 MWe to 20,000 MWe in the next decade.
Now..why is there opposition from the Left? Their primary objection is the imperialist policies of the USA.
Sounds dumb?
No,its not!
Do you think that the US or Mr.President for that matter, will step in to such a big deal just for the good of India and the World?Bleh!Suck dick!
The deal states that a share of India's profit through Nuke power plants has to be given to the US...apart from giving US indirect access to our power plants. The deal also contains several clauses that are against the interest of India.
Pardon me if i am wrong...but this is how the whole saga appears to most of the 'common-men' in India. It is best if our PM gives up his wish for the 'goodness of the nation'.It is time India shows some sort of a dominance.Denial to this deal might prompt the US to edit the agreement.
Because,India is one treasure America would not want to lose..

Saturday beckons
Little did i know that 1st engineering could be as taxing as what it is now!Its still like High school. We have already started writing records...going mad doing Engineering drawing...carrying out pretty successful group studies(PRETTY successful because...when we sit to study for 4 hours..around 2.5 hours are productive)!
However, its a different story on weekends.Obviously there is a lot of assignments thrown at me...but i try my best to finish it off as soon as possible.
Still,on Saturdays i spend my evening time playing Football with my old school friends...and sundays..its the same old meetings at some place. It has surprised me that still most of us make it when we are called. And there's still the birthday treats doing the rounds. There was one last week and another this saturday. So,i'm still spending some good quality time with my school friends.
I just hope..that these times don't fade away into memories..and let these weekends remain forever!
And i am looking ahead for possibly the sweetest of Saturdays.(No...its not the B'day treat! sheesh!!).
This saturday will be the day my mom returns after 4 months(Phew!!).She had gone to the UK to take care of my sister (who also returns) as my sis gave birth to a baby girl.I also get to see the baby for the first time in person. So,its after quite a long time that i get to see my mom and i am already excited.Never in my life have we been separated for such a long stint but nevertheless these 4 months have been a learning experience.I,(to be frank) actually loved my dad's cooking and he certainly matched my mom.
Saturday beckons...:P

Swimming against the tide - Time
Here's the Friday post as usual.But..this time its the dullest of Fridays ever since col started. The fact that tomorrow's going to be a working day as a compensation for Monday's holiday has left me lamenting on the 1 day weekend. As the title suggests days appear longer and the Earth seems to be circling slower despite the fact that i have work to do all day. And,i have started taking my mobile to col...dunno the reason for it though.I have developed a bad throat as a result of drinking water from the cooler in the college and also playing football in the rain last saturday. The best thing that happened to me this week is that i have picked up a few Japanese words. It's extremely difficult to learn the language...but i have always wanted to do that.Dunno when i will do it though!I know about 15 words right now(!!)..and it happened as i stumbled into a good site that teaches the language.
My home is house to a good number of plants that form a part of the ever-expanding garden.A plant(dunno what it is though)was planted nearly an year ago and it has never grown since then.It has remained at the same height right from the day i know it.(No..its nothing to do with Bonsai..Whoa!another Japanese word!!)I examined what was going wrong with that kiddo...and gave it a close look.I found two small worms which had antennas like things all over its body.
These small pests seem to be eating the big leaves of the poor plant.I was astonished that these creatures were even able to eat the leaves.Obviously...it would take them large amount of time to finish off with a leaf. When i found them...they were feeding on the leaves. Can someone find me the name of that thing?
Hope that the plant grows from now.
For no reason,i am feeling hyper-active right now!Weird!!

More shit
Keeping a posting schedule consistent can at times be a little taxing. Not that i am compelled to post or something like that...but i am passionate about it.There are those days when you don’t feel particularly inspired or driven or perhaps you simply don’t have the time. But its Friday! This is the day that i wait for the entire week. This is the day when i feel relaxed and i go home(moi own world). To realise that there are 4 days of out-of-routine stuff in front of me is just awesome. As a result of the Government sponsored bandh on the Sethu project issue on monday and to celebrate Gandhi's birthday on Tuesday...i have got a 2 day bonus! And,Friday is for starters.I can go watch tv or study or shit or do my assignments(which can wait till the latter part of Day 4!).Accompanied by a little dose of music and a heavy dose of coffee....these Friday hours are the best!
I was wondering whether there have been any changes in my routine..this past week or two.The answer is an obvious NO!It is interesting to note that in 95% of the posts of various blogs...the ones that have the letter 'I' repeatedly have almost nothing to say (or rather nothing interesting to say).My prime objective is to reduce the usage of that letter in the future.
Well then...waassup with the world? There's some shit going on in Myanmar...of which i know the least, then there's more shit in Pakistan..Musharaf's managed to file his nomination papers...and needless to say..there's always this global warming shit in the papers. All those who write about environment blah blah...do they ever follow their own words? My consious self seeks an answer and i deliver it.I have always been an eco-friendly person.(I don't even use an automobile!!On the other hand...pssstt...i have shitted on a street! It happened when i was in my 6th standard.I had gone to Banglore on my december hols...and i took a walk alone away from my relatives place.I had money on my pocket...and decided to drink a cola to quench my thirst.I bought a Pepsi from a medical shop and it took 5 minutes to finish it because there was too much gas in it.Just seconds later...i could literally hear sounds from my stomach.Dont know how many years had passed since the expiry date of that drink.I panicked and went into an almost-empty lane and shitted!!If this is considered to harm our mother Earth then arrest me!But,after all shit is bio-degradable waste,or so i have heard.)
Then, there's this bull run of the BSE sensex..i still dont clearly understand the effects it will have on a non-investor.aka.common man.aka.me!
It would me pure shit to you if i go on with this shit.Obviously...there's more shit to come!
PS : Dont know whether you have noted it...But there are 23 'I's used in this post.I know,i know.....i am working on it!
